What to Check After a Chattanooga Thunderstorm
Do not climb a wet ladder to “see.” Walk the grade. Look at corners, outlets, and the soil at the foundation. Call if a run is off the house or water is still dumping at the slab.
Tennessee Valley cells dump hard. Overflow at a corner usually means a packed outlet or a dead pitch—not a need for a whole new roof. A trough hanging off the fascia is an emergency hang, not a weekend DIY. Same-day gutter repair exists for pulled hangers and storm-bent runs.
Ground checklist
Is water still coming from an elbow long after the rain? The downspout may be clear at the top and packed at the shoe. Are there fresh gullies at a corner? The splash block moved or never existed. Is the fascia dark and the trough sitting low? Hangers walked. Paint bubbles mean the board is taking water—fascia repair before any new coil.
If the system overflowed but is still attached, book cleaning and a pitch check. If this happens every storm on a large or metal roof, you may need 6-inch troughs, not another scoop of leaves.
